I'm considering going paid with a low monthly subscription fee
I may keep some articles free too.
The question I’ve got is whether or not other urbanists, or non-urbanists, suburbanists, and ruralists (did I just invent two new words?) are going to be willing to pay a small monthly fee to read my opinions. I personally subscribe to several newsletter sites here (I’m glad that I found Substack). Some of them I agree with. Some I agree with some of their opinions. Some I don’t agree with at all, but I want to know their opinions and why they have those opinions. I just might learn something.
Personally, I don’t have a problem paying for subscriptions. I believe in helping other writers make a living, even if their writing is a part-time venture. Information is a business, just like any other business. Remember, I said I was a conservative.
I’m also in the music business. I played drums for the US Air Force for 26 years, then I taught drums/percussion in 2 private schools and 1 commercial music school, here in the DC area for about another 15 years. I was paid for my knowledge of playing a musical instrument. I was paid to pass that knowledge onto the next generation of musicians. Now, I’m going to take a shot at writing about my love of cities, and how we can restore them to being places that will attract a good solid mix of the various working and middle classes; the back bones of any city. I’m going to concentrate primarily on Washington, DC, and the Maryland suburbs. I don’t know enough about Virginia to give a qualified opinion.
