Metro On Christmas Day
Thank you to the unsung heroes keeping the people movers going.
Yesterday, I attended the 12 pm Mass, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, on Michigan Avenue NE, Washington, DC. Knowing that it would be quite crowded, based on several years of personal experience, I decided to use Metro to get there. I didn’t want to have to end up parking in the main lot, which is across the street. Then, it’s an uphill walk to the Basilica.
I drove to the College Park station, and parked there in the garage. It’s about 2 miles from my house. I could have taken the P1X bus to Rhode Island Avenue, then taken the Red Line to Brookland, one stop, and then a bus. However, I wanted more rail time, so I drove to a Metrorail station, took the Green Line to Fort Totten, the Red Line to Brookland, and the C61 bus to the bus stop in front of Gibbons Hall, at Catholic U. From there, it’s a short walk to the entrance. Yes, the bus stop is closer than the parking lot, and it’s not uphill.
The Mass was wonderful. So was the trip getting to and from there. I had to wait about 10 minutes for a Green Line train on the way home, but that is why I have a Kindle app on my phone.
Thank you Metro. You provide a wonderful service. Merry Christmas.
