Ok,Trump Won

This could be the best thing that ever happened to Urbanism.

I’m sure all my Liberal Urbanist,(and small “l” liberal urbanists) friends, are not happy. And yes, you are my friends. We just have different beliefs on how to achieve well-functioning urban and urbanized areas. Once you are done licking your wounds, look at the opportunity you now have to create your vision of 15-minute cities. What do I mean by that? Take off your DEI ideological glasses, and turn off the vitriol for a minute.

Donald Trump grew up in New York City. He knows how cities work, and don’t work. Get to know whoever he picks for HUD Secretary, and their staff. Present your ideas. He took a few million in seed money from his dad, himself being a mostly residential real estate empire builder, and built a billion-dollar, world-wide commercial real estate empire. Donald Trump knows how to create your dream of the 15-minute city, where you can walk everywhere you need to go in 15-minutes or less. You know the place where there is no crime, your kids can go to quality public schools, they can safely play outside unsupervised, and there is frequent bus and rail service a block a way? Oh, I forgot affordable housing that doesn’t look like, or end up, like Cabrini-Green, or Pruitt-Igoe.

Now is the time to put a plans together on funding public transportation, and creating affordable housing, but first you have to stop looking down your sanctimonious noses on those folks that work in the construction industry, and the garbage collectors. You know what I’m talking about, hyperbole aside.

President-elect Donald Trump has said he wants to fix our cities. Help him do that. In fact, hold him to that. Become part of the solution. You just might get what you wish for. Oh, and you just might get it “under budget and ahead of schedule”.
