Pope Francis Has Died

I woke up this morning to the news that Pope Francis had passed away earlier this morning. It’s earlier in Europe than it is in the eastern part of the US. He passed around 7:20ish AM Italy time.

I didn’t agree with him, when it came to the restrictions on the Traditional Latin Mass. There were other disagreements in his policies that I didn’t agree with, but the TLM has a special place in my heart.

He grew up in Peronist, Socialist, Argentina. I’m sure that was the formation for his overall worldview. You really can’t throw away certain aspects of your upbringing. They become too ingrained in your psyche.

That doesn’t mean that he was a bad person. I think that personally, he was a very holy man. He did stir up a few hornets’ nests, however. Maybe that was the general idea.

Now the cardinals will meet and elect a new pope. Who they choose, will show the direction they wish to take the Church. I’m hoping that it is someone who leans in a conservative direction. I would love to see the TLM at 2pm on Sunday, back at my church.

Meanwhile, let us all say a prayer for Pope Francis. Requiescat in pace.
